TonsillectomyA tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure designed to improve airway obstruction by removing enlarged tonsils. Significantly enlarged tonsils can hinder proper airflow and breathing, resulting in obstructive events during sleep.

A tonsillectomy is a 15 minute procedure performed under general anesthesia. The entire surgery is performed through the mouth, therefore, the patient does not have any visible incisions or bruising after surgery.

The post-operative course for a tonsillectomy results in a painful sore throat for about 7-10 days. It is not uncommon for patients to lose approximately 15 pounds the first week after surgery as they are on a liquid diet. Patients are provided proper pain medication after surgery.
